Weather & Lightning Considerations

This is a SUMMER race. It will most likely be hot. Please anticipate this and make sure you are in the physical condition required to run in the heat of a New England July for the distance you are signing up for. Consider bringing a handheld water bottle or hydration pack if forecasted heat is higher than usual.

That being said, an electrical storm is always a small possibility, and is something that might force race management to alter or cancel the event in the interest of athlete safety. In the event of a lightning storm, race management reserves the right to do one of the following, depending on the situation:

– Delay the start of the race.

– Convert the full half marathon to an “on-campus” half marathon, that utilizes loops of the on-campus part of the course. In this scenario, we will open up a “lightning shelter” on the course, allowing athletes to seek shelter during a worsening lightning situation once the race has started.

– Convert the races to a 10k or a 5k to keep all athletes on the Stonehill College campus, closer to buildings and vehicles in the event that forecasted storms got too close. In this scenario, we will open up a “lightning shelter” on the course, allowing athletes to seek shelter during a worsening lightning situation once the race has started.

– Cancel the event all together (obviously a last-resort).

Please understand that there are no refunds due to a lightning delay/alteration/cancellation.
